Community Campaigns

CHC leads two campaigns that directly engage communities as agents of their own change, lending its support and experience to community outreach and mobilization efforts that improve the health of local communities. With the help of community residents, CHC conducted a survey on the availability of healthy foods in South Los Angeles and published the study Does Race Define What’s In the Shopping Cart? which led to the Neighborhood Food Watch campaign. The Greater Baldwin Hills Alliance formed after the operator of the Baldwin Hills Oil Field proposed to expand drilling by over 1,000 new wells in the historic heart of African-American Los Angeles.
